On the August 8-9 weekend, runners in the Jacksonville area can participate in one of the more unique events in Florida with the Tour De Pain 3-races in 24 hours competition. On Friday, August 8, runners will trek four miles on Jacksonville Beach. Saturday morning, a 5km off Baymeadows Avenue and on Saturday afternoon a one mile run off Hemming Plaza. Jacksonville resident Matt Balanky, 29, and his cousin Ben Webb, 34, are taking the trip of a lifetime. The cousins are embarking on a 2,650-mile trek along the Pacific Crest Trail from the barren desert and arid heat of Mexico through the quiet cool of the redwood and pine forests of California and Oregon and the melting snow of Washington to the verdant green of Canada.
